It\u2019s only been in very recent years that we have been made aware of the hugeness of the impact that the global fashion business is making on the environment. But this often feels, like many other environmental issues, like a problem that the consumer is expected to shoulder when it is the whole industry that needs to change from the materials, the supply chain, and through to the way we get rid of our clothes when they are no longer needed.<\/span><\/p> <\/p> After working in the thick of it on the British high street, I have seen factories across the world making hundreds of thousands, sometimes millions, of garments in a year. Although always completely awe-inspiring, I\u2019ve also seen first hand the waste it creates and the enormous effect this has on the environment.<\/span><\/p> <\/p> The Fashion Industry is responsible for over 10% of the world\u2019s greenhouse gas emissions.<\/span><\/a><\/p><\/li> Due to the use of synthetic fibres, the fashion business accounts for 10% of the 300 million tons of plastic produced globally each year.<\/span><\/a><\/p><\/li> 100 billion garments are created every year.<\/span><\/a><\/p><\/li> 40% of clothing is never worn.<\/span><\/a><\/p><\/li> 92 million Tonnes of Textiles Waste is Produced Every Year.<\/span><\/a><\/p><\/li><\/ul> <\/p> We knew we wanted to start with a different way of thinking at the Good Thread Gang, and began our search for organic cotton and suppliers who worked only through sustainable factories.
