But what exactly is the circular economy? We want to unravel the threads of this eco-friendly concept and explore its significance in the context of our Gang's mission.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\">Scarily <\/span><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.unep.org\/news-and-stories\/story\/fashions-tiny-hidden-secret\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\">60% of clothing is made from plastic<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\"> and <\/span><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.weforum.org\/agenda\/2019\/02\/how-the-circular-economy-is-redesigning-fashions-future\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\"><u>73% goes to landfill or incineration<\/u><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\"> and even worse, <\/span><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.worldbank.org\/en\/news\/feature\/2019\/09\/23\/costo-moda-medio-ambiente\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\"><u>40% of this number has never even been worn<\/u><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\">.<\/span><\/p><h2>The Circular Economy in a <span>n<\/span>utshell<\/h2><p><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\">At its core, the circular economy is a system that aims to reuse the same materials over and over again, removing (or considerably reducing) this waste. Unlike the traditional \u2018linear\u2019 model most industries have used since forever, which follows a 'take, make, chuck\u2019 approach, the circular economy prioritises longevity, recycling, and reuse.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\">It's about creating a continuous cycle where products are designed to last, and materials are repurposed rather than discarded.<\/span><\/p><p><img src=\"https:\/\/images.teemill.com\/1bbezayvhqmdulxwnhrclt2dsdpuzyda2me53uyltsgji0zo.jpg.jpg?w=1140&amp;v=2\" alt=\"Handwritten diagram showing the differences between circular and linear production on sustainable clothing\" title=\"Handwritten diagram showing the differences between circular and linear production on sustainable clothing\" \/><\/p><h2>Is the Circular Economy the answer to everything?<\/h2><p><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\">Sadly not. We don\u2019t believe in green-washing and won\u2019t promise you that this will single-handedly solve the climate crisis.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\">But at the Good Thread Gang, we believe in imperfect sustainability. This is a start: reducing waste and pollution, and embracing the journey towards sustainability.<\/span><\/p><h2>So, how does it work?<\/h2><p><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\">We are excited to say that we have joined with production house Teemill, the world's first circular economy supply chain.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\">Since 2018, they have recovered 34,906kg of organic material and diverted it from landfill, preventing 1,125,971kg of CO2 emissions and saving 697 million litres of water.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\">As part of their brilliant gang, all of the hoodies, sweatshirts and graphic tees we sell embody this circular mindset. We start with GOTS-certified organic materials, use sustainable factories that run on sun and wind power, and ship in biodegradable packaging. The best bit is that every piece of clothing we design is made to be returned.
